Keeping Your Home Safe During Hurricane Season
Summers in Florida can be a great time to take a break and explore all that the Sunshine State has to offer, including a long list of beautiful beaches, challenging hiking trails, and fantastic theme parks.
But in Florida, the time period between June 1st and November 30th is hurricane season (with the months of August and September usually packing the strongest punches). So, as we move towards some potentially unsettled weather, it is important to consider how you can protect your home. There are several ways that you can do that, such as:
- Installing a metal roof. Replacing a traditional shingled roof with one that’s made of metal could provide your home with more protection from torrential rain and hail, as well as high winds. Metal roofs are typically outfitted with interlocking panels, which give it more strength and stability. The same holds true for installing a metal garage door.
- Changing your windows to impact glass. Windows with impact glass are becoming more popular in Florida and other hurricane-prone areas. In addition to standing up to rain and high winds, these windows can also provide your home with more security from burglars.
- Putting in fiberglass doors. High winds can wreak havoc on regular wooden doors. So, replacing one or more of your doors with ones made of fiberglass can reduce the odds of this, keeping you and your loved ones safe.
