Many people across the U.S. have spent the majority of 2020 at home – and 2021 could prove to be more of the same. Given the increase in home-based activities, it may be that you’ve decided to give your abode a new or updated look. If that is the case, you might want to consider the upcoming home design trends for the coming year.
It should come as no surprise that many of these include comfort and home office-related themes. For instance, maximizing more natural light can be a positive mood-booster any time of the year.
One approach here is to add skylights in the main living areas – especially if these spaces are being used as a working and/or learning area. You can also let the sunshine in by doing away with heavy window treatments and instead going with semi-opaque cotton curtains.
Because working (and schooling) from home is now becoming more of the norm than the exception, it could also make sense to get creative with storage space. As an example, adding a folding desk in the bedroom(s) and/or dining room can provide a place to work when it is needed, along with a way to quickly and easily reduce “unnecessary” furniture when the room is being used for other needs.
If your home update plan includes fixing up the outdoor space, you may want to consider the addition of some Zen-inspired garden details such as a rock garden and/or fountain that promotes peaceful and calming vibes.
